Bécoeur is a well-known figure in the art of taxidermy, known for his arsenical soap that museums employed world-wide. Arsenic in museums collections has been prohibited since the 1980s because of the toxins.

Depending on how it preserved it can stay intact and presentable for decades. That is if you care for it properly; keep it dry and out of the sun, prevent insect infestations and such. Generally a tanned skin will last longer than a dry preserved one.

The meat is used for human or animal consumption. Bottom line, nothing goes to waste. "Ethical taxidermy" is a label so often used by taxidermists that are not ethical, nor are they honest with their clients about where their animals are coming from.
