Taxidermy : biocides may be used in different steps of the process such as pickling, soaking and tanning and also on finished mounted animals (dry preservation) as shown in table 1. Formaldehyde is less and less used and replaced by other products most of the time.

The chemical solution for the naturalization of an animal or to maintain the shape and appearance of a plant, includes 10 g of 100% boric acid, 150 g of NaCl and 30 g of phenol, 5 l of aldehyde 35% formic acid and 5 liters of 98% alcohol.

These days, having a fish mounted is easier than ever before. Better still, the fish doesn't even have to be killed! Unlike years past, when the entire fish or some parts were used to create a mount, modern fish taxidermy is now progressing towards 100-percent fiberglass reproductions.

After the animal is skinned, fat is methodically scraped off the underside of the hide. The underside of the hide is then rubbed with borax or cedar dust to help it dry faster. The animal is then stuffed with cotton and sewn up. Mammals are laid flat on their belly.
